Kiwanis Charity Poker Tournament

It is the 4th annual charity poker tournament that the Green Valley Kiwanis club will be hosting, February 27th of 2016. The Green Valley Kiwanis Club was chartered in 1989 with the help of Kiwanians from the Henderson and Las Vegas Clubs.  In its relatively short life, the club has proved to be an active force in the community with service to youth, senior citizens and the handicapped.  The club presently sponsors 5 High School Key Clubs, the UNLV Circle K Club and 1 Builders Club.  Our community service includes support to St. Jude’s Ranch (St. George House), Robert Taylor Elementary, Morrow Elementary School, Goodie Two Shoes, Numerous Cancer Organizations and Giving Life Ministries, to mention a few.

It will be a fun night with local residents for a great cause. All of the money generated from this fundraising effort will be distributed to various charities around the Valley and SunBuggy was more than happy to donate our popular Mini Baja Chase as a prize to be raffled off/entered into the silent auction that will be held.

South Hills Church Community

South Hills Church Community is a member of The Christian and Missionary Alliance (The Alliance). The Alliance is a Christ centered global movement of more then 6 million strong that has a long history of serving both locally and globally.

As part of their expanding missions focus, South Hills Church Community is adding to their short term trip their partner church in the community of Los Salados, Dominican Republic, two additional trips. The first will be the week before Easter as they will take a team to The Dream Center in Los Angeles to serve those in need in the South Central neighborhoods. The Dream Center is a volunteer-driven organization that meets the needs of more than 80,000 people per month in the Los Angeles area. They provide mobile hunger relief and medical programs, residential rehabilitation programs, shelter for human trafficking, transitional housing for homeless families, foster care intervention programs, job skills training, counseling, basic education, and bible studies; to name a few.

Another new trip for them this year will be serving alongside Alliance Missionary missionary Rick Romano and his local team as they work on phase 2 of a community collective initiative to build a Aquaponic Sustainable Agricultural facility in the community of El Cibao, Santiago, Dominican Republic. Construction of this facility is part of a larger focus to bring sustainable solutions to regions in poverty in lieu of temporary remedies.

Team three will be serving alongside our partnering pastor Elvis Amado Batista and his church in the community of Los Salados. Pastor Batista’s church is making a mighty impact not only in his local church, but in the broader community including a thriving recovering ministry within the local jail and prison system. Pastor Batista has identified a great need for healthy lifestyles and this years team will be focusing on sharing the gospel with the community through the conduit of physical fitness training.

To help fund these trips, South Hills Church Community will be holding a silent auction which Sunbuggy Fun Rentals has gladly donated a dune buggy ride experience to to help raise more money for!

Trail by Peers

Trial by Peers allows non-violent, first-time offenders entering the juvenile justice system, to earn a clean second chance by completing this special program. After referral and completion to Trials by Peers, these kids, ages 12-18, will not have a criminal record in the system, but will have the support needed to help them make better choices. It is a program about changing the future before it goes wrong. The Clark County Law Foundation (CCLF), on the flip side, also educates motivated youth ages 12-18 to represent these juveniles in a real courtroom, in front of a real judge, while working under licensed attorney volunteers. These motivated youth are required to attend a 3 month summer “law school” and pass a mini bar to qualify as prosecution and defense counselors representing the state and defendants.

The CCLF is hosting its first annual Community Champions 2016 Gala on February 27th, 2016 which will include a raffle that will help raise money to support this nonprofit organization. Sunbuggy is proud to donate a Sunbuggy adventure experience for the raffle to help out the event!
