The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to finding the cures for Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis. It was founded in 1967 by Irwin M. and Suzanne Rosenthal, William D. and Shelby Modell, and Henry D. Janowitz, M.D.

Since their founding over four decades ago, CCFA has remained at the forefront of research in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Today, they fund cutting-edge studies at major medical institutions, nurture investigators at the early stages of their careers, and finance underdeveloped areas of research. In addition, their educational workshops and programs, along with their scientific journal, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, enable medical professionals to keep pace with this rapidly growing field. They are very proud that the National Institutes of Health has commended them for “uniting the research community and strengthening IBD research.”

On Saturday, May 14, 2016, the CCFA will be ramping up one of their biggest fundraising events, “Take Steps: Walk at Mountain’s Edge Exploration Peak Park”. This event will be holding a raffle that Sunbuggy Fun Rentals has proudly donated a riding experience to in order to help raise donations to this non-profit organization.

Ragin Cajun Bayou Blowout

For over 56 years Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego, Inc. has contributed to the overall well being of seniors by providing regular nutrition and daily contact with a caring volunteer. The impact that Meals-on-Wheels has on the seniors they serve goes far beyond the wholesome meals provided. Daily friendly contact also provides important socialization for those who may be isolated with little or no connection to the outside world. Lives are often saved in the course of delivering meals when a person does not respond to a knock on the door, has fallen or may have become ill. With an increase in the 65+ age category over the next 20 years by 72%, our seniors are in need of support now more than ever.

On Saturday, June 11, 2016, Meals-on-Wheels will be hosting their largest annual fundraising event of the year, The Ragin’ Cajun Bayou Blowout at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. There, they will be holding a live and silent auction to help raise money to support San Diego’s seniors and beat their last fundraising record of $215,000. This event will also feature 10+ renowned chefs from San Diego competing for the “Chefy” Award in the 7th annual Chef Appetizer Competition. The Ragin Cajun Bayou Blowout is anticipating to have over 400 quests to help raise funds for San Diego seniors.

Sunbuggy Fun Rentals has gladly donated a riding experience to the live and silent auction in order to help raise money for their seniors.

As part of their expanding missions focus, South Hills Church Community is adding to their short term trip their partner church in the community of Los Salados, Dominican Republic, two additional trips. The first will be the week before Easter as they will take a team to The Dream Center in Los Angeles to serve those in need in the South Central neighborhoods. Trail by Peers

Trial by Peers allows non-violent, first-time offenders entering the juvenile justice system, to earn a clean second chance by completing this special program. After referral and completion to Trials by Peers, these kids, ages 12-18, will not have a criminal record in the system, but will have the support needed to help them make better choices. It is a program about changing the future before it goes wrong. The Clark County Law Foundation (CCLF), on the flip side, also educates motivated youth ages 12-18 to represent these juveniles in a real courtroom, in front of a real judge, while working under licensed attorney volunteers. These motivated youth are required to attend a 3 month summer “law school” and pass a mini bar to qualify as prosecution and defense counselors representing the state and defendants.
