Discovery Children’s Museum

Discovery Children't Museum

Prior to opening its doors in a new location at Symphony Park and with a new name, the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum, Lied Discovery Children’s Museum was located in the historic Cultural Corridor in Downtown Las Vegas. The museum’s co-founders, Robin Greenspun and Mark Tratos, arranged a partnership between the Junior League of Las Vegas and the Allied Arts Council founding a private, nonprofit educational institution in 1984. A bond issue authorizing the building of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library and Discovery Museum in 1985 gave the museum a permanent home, which opened its doors to the public on September 9, 1990.

Over the years, the museum developed into a critical community asset that complemented and enhanced the educational experience of the children living in Southern Nevada and was regularly recognized for award-winning exhibits and programs. More than 2.2 million children and adults visited the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum.

Realizing a years-long relocation plan, the new museum opened March 9, 2013 in the Donald W. Reynolds Discovery Center adjacent to The Smith Center in Symphony Park. Much more than just the relocation of the current museum, the new museum helps redefine Las Vegas as a city that values culture and the arts, an urban lifestyle and, most importantly, its children. Three-stories tall in stature, the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum 58,000-square-foot building is home to nine-themed exhibition halls totaling 26,000 square feet of interactive hands-on core exhibits. The 5,000 square foot Featured Exhibitions Gallery is large enough to accommodate major exhibits from the nation’s leading museums. The new location is a safe, easily accessible, family-oriented and energetic educational destination that offers visitors extraordinary learning experiences and enhanced school, public and extended programs.

Vegas Stronger

#vegasstronger

On October 1st, 2017 Vegas was shaken and struck by tragedy. The Route 91 shooting was nothing short of horrific and terrifying for all those who saw it or experienced it in any way. But what happened here in Las Vegas was something no one saw coming…we became #VegasStrong. We stood up, said, “Not in my city!”, came together, and we fought through. That hasn’t ended since that night and we are STRONGER than ever.

The #VegasStronger event will showcase businesses and professionals from Las Vegas and all the while benefiting our First Responders. All people and businesses that help will be listed as sponsors and given the chance to showcase their services and businesses! They are calling out to Las Vegas, to all those who make us who we are as a city, to come together and show the world we are #VegasStronger.

SunBuggy is proud to donate to this worthwhile cause!  We are donating two packages worth over $500 each with the hope that it will benefit the Vegas Stronger Event.

Pasadena Symphony & POPS

The Pasadena Symphony Association is a  non-profit organization, founded in 1928 by Conductor Reginald Bland. Originally named the Pasadena Civic Orchestra, its first members were mostly volunteer musicians, many of whom were students of Bland. The annual operating budget was a mere $3,500, which was funded entirely by the City of Pasadena. Because of the tremendous support it continually received from the local community, the Pasadena Symphony grew into a nationally recognized, fully professional orchestra. The Pasadena Symphony Association officially merged the Pasadena Symphony and POPS in 2007.

Over the past 80 years, the Pasadena Symphony has artistically matured into one of the top performing symphonic ensembles in southern California, comprised of the most gifted and sought after musicians from the motion picture film industry. With extensive credits in the film, television, recording and orchestral industry, the musicians of Pasadena Symphony and POPS are the most heard in the world.

The Pasadena Symphony and POPS performs in two of the most extraordinary venues in the United States: Ambassador Auditorium, known as the Carnegie Hall of the West, and the luxuriant Los Angeles Arboretum & Botanic Garden. Internationally recognized, Grammy-nominated conductor, David Lockington, serves as the Pasadena Symphony Association’s Music Director, with performance-practice specialist Nicholas McGegan serving as Principal Guest Conductor.  The multi-platinum-selling, two-time Emmy and five-time Grammy Award-nominated entertainer dubbed “The Ambassador of the Great American Songbook,” Michael Feinstein, is the  Principal Pops Conductor, who succeeded  Marvin Hamlisch in the newly created Marvin Hamlisch Chair.

A hallmark of its robust education programs, the Pasadena Symphony Association has served the youth of the region for over five decades through the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestras of over 300 gifted students in grades 4-12 from more than 50 schools all over Southern California.  The PYSO Symphony tours bi-annually and makes guest appearances at local venues throughout the year, including on the popular television show GLEE.
